Coney Island Day
Being at Coney Island is like stepping into another era. There’s this cheesiness about it, but also this side of it that’s really beautiful and makes me think of my grandparents’ Brooklyn. It seemed that everything there was made for … Continue reading

Snowpocalypse December 2010 – Brooklyn, NY
Photos from the New York City blizzard, aka “Snowpocalypse 2010,” December 26 & 27. From Brooklyn’s Sunset Park neighborhood (23rd Street/3rd & 4th Ave) and Bay Ridge neighborhood (72nd-73rd Streets/Ridge Blvd & 3rd Avenue). All photos taken with my iPhone 4, … Continue reading

Controlling Wildlife in Park Slope
I lived in Park Slope for eight years and I never understood why a run-down Wildlife Control hearse is always parked on 15th Street between 8th Avenue and Prospect Park West. I mean, sure, there may be some wildlife in … Continue reading

Live Music is in Fashion at Brooklyn Industries
It’s no secret that Brooklyn Industries is my favorite retailer on the planet. That’s right, not just in Brooklyn – ON THE PLANET. Just wait until they open a store on Mars. I will buy a new hoodie or handbag in a split-second if I pass by a BKI (did I mention I’m the Mayor of the Park Slope 5th Avenue Store on Foursquare? And I live in Bay Ridge). Needless to say, BKI doesn’t need to do much more to woo me into their stores. But maybe I can woo you in… Continue reading

On Beer and Socc–er, Football: Watching the World Cup in Brooklyn
Despite soccer being an afterthought for most American sports fans, Americans do welcome one thing when the Cup comes around — the opportunity to stir up their hidden jingoism around the U.S. Men’s National Team and, of course, find a place to drink, watch and cheer with other crazy Americans who’ve never previously had an interest in soccer. Social Media Week NYC Prediction: Geolocation services are going to be “HUGE”
February 1-5 was Social Media Week in New York City, with panel discussions, events and parties happening all over the city. The buzz before the week was about “geolocation services” and I heard many a prediction that it would be … Continue reading

A Eulogy for Miracle Grill
This past Monday, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, my partner and I headed into Park Slope to have brunch at our favorite restaurant, Miracle Grill. Since moving to Bay Ridge last year we don’t spend too much time in the Slope, so Miracle is always a treat for us – the place we go for a special occasion such as a birthday, a family member’s visit to Brooklyn, or in this case, a holiday weekend brunch. Continue reading

Hansel and Gretel Make a Detour in Brooklyn
After living for eight years in the Park Slope neighborhood of Brooklyn (which is by far my favorite area of NYC), I packed my bags two months ago and moved south to Bay Ridge. Rents are just becoming outrageously high … Continue reading
Brooklyn Spotlight On… Etsy!
You know how you can hear about something new, and then all of a sudden you start seeing it mentioned everywhere? That’s what I’ve noticed lately with Etsy, “the world’s most vibrant handmade marketplace,” according to their Twitter bio. [photo … Continue reading
