That T-Shirt You’re Wearing Was Designed by a 10-Year Old
THIS is awesome. From the Brooklyn Industries blog, Words from the Watertower: Earlier this month, Brooklyn Industries hosted a Design Your Own T-Shirt Booth for kids at Park Slope’s Fifth Avenue Street Fair. Dozens of kids flooded the booth to show us their … Continue reading

Coney Island Day
Being at Coney Island is like stepping into another era. There’s this cheesiness about it, but also this side of it that’s really beautiful and makes me think of my grandparents’ Brooklyn. It seemed that everything there was made for … Continue reading

Snowpocalypse December 2010 – Brooklyn, NY
Photos from the New York City blizzard, aka “Snowpocalypse 2010,” December 26 & 27. From Brooklyn’s Sunset Park neighborhood (23rd Street/3rd & 4th Ave) and Bay Ridge neighborhood (72nd-73rd Streets/Ridge Blvd & 3rd Avenue). All photos taken with my iPhone 4, … Continue reading

Controlling Wildlife in Park Slope
I lived in Park Slope for eight years and I never understood why a run-down Wildlife Control hearse is always parked on 15th Street between 8th Avenue and Prospect Park West. I mean, sure, there may be some wildlife in … Continue reading

Live Music is in Fashion at Brooklyn Industries
It’s no secret that Brooklyn Industries is my favorite retailer on the planet. That’s right, not just in Brooklyn – ON THE PLANET. Just wait until they open a store on Mars. I will buy a new hoodie or handbag in a split-second if I pass by a BKI (did I mention I’m the Mayor of the Park Slope 5th Avenue Store on Foursquare? And I live in Bay Ridge). Needless to say, BKI doesn’t need to do much more to woo me into their stores. But maybe I can woo you in… Continue reading

On Beer and Socc–er, Football: Watching the World Cup in Brooklyn
Despite soccer being an afterthought for most American sports fans, Americans do welcome one thing when the Cup comes around — the opportunity to stir up their hidden jingoism around the U.S. Men’s National Team and, of course, find a place to drink, watch and cheer with other crazy Americans who’ve never previously had an interest in soccer. Continue reading
Upper East Side Travels to Brooklyn (and Lives to Blog About It!)
Ok, I confess: I’m a bad Brooklynite. I’ve never been to the Brooklyn Museum, despite the fact that I lived in Park Slope for eight years, just “steps away” (as local real estate agents would say). As many New Yorkers … Continue reading
A Eulogy for Miracle Grill
This past Monday, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, my partner and I headed into Park Slope to have brunch at our favorite restaurant, Miracle Grill. Since moving to Bay Ridge last year we don’t spend too much time in the Slope, so Miracle is always a treat for us – the place we go for a special occasion such as a birthday, a family member’s visit to Brooklyn, or in this case, a holiday weekend brunch. Continue reading

Thank You to the Senators Who Stood Up for Equality
We must not forget about the New York State Senators who stood up before their peers and advocated equality for same-sex couples. Please take a moment to call or e-mail these twenty-four Senators and thank them. Eric Adams (video) — … Continue reading

What Does Marriage Mean to You?
In the wake of the New York Senate’s December 2 vote to deny marriage equality to same-sex couples, I posted the following in my response: In my opinion, a true marriage is defined by equality in love, commitment, honor and … Continue reading
